An estimated 2 million Americans are hooked on prescription painkillers, along with another 600,000 hooked on heroin. As the damage of opioids becomes clear, doctors are increasingly looking for alternatives for managing pain. Biofeedback can reduce chronic pain, so can mindfulness training and yoga, Miles O’Brien reports.
Chronic pain can be debilitating, but there are ways to help your mind and body manage pain. Matthew Schumann, licensed psychologist with Mayo Clinic, discusses factors that impact pain, and reviews evidence-based self-management strategies to reduce pain.

I’ve done plenty of vlogs and “day in the life” videos, but this time I wanted to give you a look into what life is really like for those of us who have chronic illnesses and disabilities. I’ve been told countless times that it “must be nice” to stay at home, but this is what it looks like very often.

In this video, Doctor Andrea Furlan, will explain:
00:00 Introduction
01:01 What are the symptoms of central sensitization?
04:27 How does a person develop central sensitization?
13:14 Is there any test that can be ordered to confirm the diagnosis?
14:46 how to get rid of central sensitization.
Central sensitization is a condition that affects many people with chronic pain. The person feels like brain fog, difficulty to concentrate, poor memory, low mood, low energy, fatigue and has pain in many parts of their body. This is common in people with fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome. Central sensitization is also present in people who have opioid-induced hyperalgesia.
The treatments involve mind-body therapies and movement (exercises).

This specially composed music for meditation and/or sleep, combines the healing Solfeggio frequencies of 528 Hz and 417 Hz and is here for you to lovingly support you on your healing journey to self-love, self-acceptance, self-assurance, inner balance and deep inner peace 🧡

Solfeggio frequencies form part of an ancient scale that was rediscovered in the early 70’s. They are a tone sequence of special tonal frequencies. Originally used in Gregorian chants for centuries, they recently were brought to everybody’s attention for their healing powers.
The Solfeggio frequency of 528Hz is said to be a “Miracle Tone” and the frequency of self love. It can help heal old negative energies, activate a positive and spiritual energy cleanse and replace all negativity with positive energy and thereby heal negative experiences from in the past. It helps restore self-esteem and strengthens self-love.
Some of the benefits of the 528Hz healing frequency are:
• it elevates consciousness and strengthens self-love
• it brings positive transformation into your life.
• It is a natural frequency resonating with the universe, nature and all living beings.
• it helps for spiritual connection and oneness
• it induces meditative states such as deep inner peace, mental clarity and awareness.
The 417 Hz Solfeggio frequency is said to help clear away all negativity, overcome self doubt, remove blockages and heal negative emotions. Music written in this particular 417 Hz healing frequency is said to be music to feel better and that can bring change: It marks the start of new beginnings in life and can reverse and undo the energy of negative experiences. 417 Hz music can help you overcome destructive influences of past events. The 417 Hz Solfeggio frequency puts you in contact with a never ending source of energy that allows you to change your life to positivity.
If you enjoy this video, you might also resonate with the following music:
417 Hz & 639 Hz Deep Trauma Healing & Release | Clear ALL Negative Energy | Meditation & Sleep Music
Inner Child Healing Music | Overcome Fear, Shame, Trauma & Pain | 417Hz Meditation & Sleep Frequency
Emotional Detox & Healing | Overcome Trauma | Restore Joy & Pleasure | Sacral Chakra Frequency Music
And if you would like to discover more music written in the healing Solfeggio frequencies, you can find it in this playlist:
For this meditation and/or sleep music, all instruments have been specifically and carefully tuned to 528Hz and 417Hz. Therefore, the music in this video is an original 528Hz + 417Hz composition and has not been artificially tuned to these frequencies after completion. I am convinced that composing music in the original frequency will lead to better results when it comes to deploying the positive energy and benefits of these particular Solfeggio frequencies.
Feel free to listen to this meditation and/or sleep music with headphones at a moderate level or – if you prefer – just let it flow through open space. As long as it is positive for your body and soul, it will be positive for you.
Love and gratitude 🧡🙏🏼
Pierre

WHAT’S EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME?
The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes are a group of more than 13 genetic connective tissue disorders that make connective tissue abnormally weak, fragile, and stretchy. Connective tissue is found in all parts of the body, including your organs, ligaments, and joints. As a result, people with EDS can be affected in all of these areas, as well as others. The most common symptoms and co-morbidities include chronic joint pain, dysautonomia, dislocations, GI tract dysmotility, and severe joint instability, among many others. The most common type (and the type that I have) is hypermobile EDS (formerly known as Type III), which is estimated to affect around 1 in every 5,000 people. However, it’s speculated by many to not be as rare as we once believed.

Maine has one of the highest overdose rates in the country, with a record 378 deaths in 2016. And the state has responded aggressively, by passing one of the nation’s strictest laws on prescribing opioids. It caps most patients at 100 milligrams of morphine, or its equivalent, per day.
But the law has had unintended consequences. Hundreds of chronic pain sufferers are now finding it impossible to access their typical dosage. After some Mainers pushed back on these restrictions, lawmakers said they could qualify for higher doses under the law’s palliative care exemption. Despite these assurances though, many doctors have their own interpretation of palliative care, considering it reserved for symptomatic relief at end of life. And with the medical community often blamed for causing the opioid crisis, patients are struggling to find doctors to give them the medicine they need. VICE News visits chronic pain sufferers in Midcoast Maine and one of the only physicians willing to exempt them from the new law.
This is the second installment for our series “World of Hurt,” which examines the ways different regions are impacted by the opioid crisis. If you or anyone you know would like to share their story as part of our ongoing coverage, please email Seth Dalton and Cassandra Giraldo at seth.dalton@vice.com and cassandra.giraldo@vice.com.
